The Smashing Pumpkins add US residency dates

The Smashing Pumpkins have just added three new dates to their two-city US residency this summer.

Beginning June 24, they'll play eight shows in Asheville, North Carolina and an additional 10 shows at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium, increased from the original seven because of overwhelming demand.

The newly added San Francisco dates are July 15, 16, and 18.

The band will play tracks from their forthcoming album, 'Zeitgeist', as well as older material, and reportedly plan to perform songs that they write on the day of each show.

The newly reunited band will release their forthcoming album on July 10, as previously announced.

In other news, 'Tarantula' -- the first single from 'Zeitgeist' -- premiered on Los Angeles radio station KROQ on Friday (May 18), and will receive a wider release this week.
Notorious BIG's family sues LA

Notorious BIG's family has filed a wrongful death suit against the city of Los Angeles for the second time.

The suit seeks unspecified damages on behalf of the rapper's mother, wife, and two children, and alleges that the city's police officers killed him 10 years ago.

Notorious BIG, real name Christopher Wallace, was gunned down in 1997 as he was leaving a party at a Los Angeles museum.

The suit contends that former LA police officers Rafael Perez and Nino Durden conspired to murder Notorious BIG, and that the police department played a role in covering it up, reports the Associated Press.

Both officers were involved in the infamous Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division anti-gang scandal.

Perez has denied any involvement in the murder, and no statement has been obtained from Durden.

The initial suit filed by the family of the New York rapper -- also known as Biggie Smalls -- ended in a mistrial in 2005 after it was discovered that a police detective concealed relevant information linking Perez and another officer to the murder.
Lollapalooza goes global?

Legendary US rock festival Lollapalooza may go global within the next decade.

Festival founder Perry Farrell, who fronted legendary alternative rockers Jane's Addiction and now heads up Satellite Party, expressed the desire to bring the festival to a world stage.

"I'm going to look to take it global," Farrell told MTV.com.

"I want to put together an event around the world in the next 10 years that will refashion, redress, and transform. It's something I'm looking into now, and if it happens, it will happen quick. That's my ambition," he said.

Lollapalooza travelled across the United States in the 1990s, but currently stays put in one location for three days.

This year's festival is set to take place August 3-5 in Chicago's Grant Park. Headliners include Interpol, Muse, Modest Mouse, Daft Punk and Kings of Leon, as previously announced.
