Klaxons sell out legendary LA theatre
Klaxons performed for a sold-out crowd at the Los Angeles El Rey Theatre last night (July 10).
The all-ages audience greeted the London lads with rapturous cheers and glow sticks when they took the stage at the hotly tipped gig.
Dressed all in black, the quartet ran through several popular tracks from their debut album, 'Myths Of The Near Future'.
"We're happy to be back here in LA for the third time," frontman Jamie Reynolds told the crowd. "We've only been here about 24 hours but you've made us feel most welcome."
Highlights of the evening included the dramatic 'Two Receivers' and crowd-pleaser 'Golden Skans'.
The band wrapped things up after only 45 minutes without an encore, looking a bit worse for the wear after travelling from Scotland where they played a rousing set at T In The Park at the weekend.
Speaking to NME.COM after the show, keyboardist James Righton admitted, "I'm not sure this was the right room for us. But everyone seemed happy, and the older crowd got into it." |
Kaiser Chiefs in TV ad plea to fans
Kaiser Chiefs have asked thousands of Australian fans to help them record a TV advert during a gig in Sydney tonight AEST (August 5) - and inadvertently revealed they'll be playing this year's Electric Proms in the process.
The lineup for the event - which takes place October 24-28 - is not due to be announced until September, with artists including Paul Weller, Kasabian and The Who having featured at the inaugural Proms in 2006.
Kaiser Chiefs had just finished their main set at the Hordern Pavilion and returned for the encore when they asked the crowd whether they wanted "to be on telly". Frontman Ricky Wilson then told the excited fans tolook out for a cameraman stationed in the middle of the venue.
"Alright - now repeat after me!" he continued. "We are the Kaiser Chiefs... and sometime soon... we'll be appearing at the BBC Electric Proms... with help from our friend David Arnold. We'll see you there and have a great time. Bye!"
Arnold is a Grammy Award winning composer and has written soundtracks for several James Bond films and the theme tune for 'Little Britain', as well as working with artists including Massive Attack, Iggy Pop, Jarvis Cocker and Bj?rk - although Wilson didn't specify how he would be involved with Kaiser Chiefs for the Electric Proms event. |
The Zombies reunite to play classic album
Legendary '60s outfit the Zombies are to reunite for two special 40th anniversary performances of their classic 1968 album Odessey And Oracle.
Colin Blunstone (vocals), Rod Argent (keyboards/vocals), Chris White (bass/vocals), and Hugh Grundy (drums) will be playing the entire LP from start to finish at London's Shepherds Bush Empire on March 7 and 8 next year. It will be the first time that the original band has played the songs together live onstage.
One member of the original lineup will be absent--Paul Atkinson died in 2004, and his role on guitar will be played by Keith Airey.
The first part of the concert will see the band play a selection of hits, as well as Colin Blunstone solo material performed with a string section, and Rod Argent & Chris White's hits from the band they formed after the Zombies, Argent. |
