Phil Spector trial: Day 41

The Phil Spector murder trial resumed in Los Angeles today (July 31) with testimony from a DNA expert and a lawyer representing actress Lana Clarkson's employer.

Private DNA expert Marc Scott Taylor testified for the defence, describing the manner in which Clarkson's dried blood was collected by sheriff's criminalists. He said that he received samples wrapped in a paper Post-It note, which has been argued is not an ideal method of collecting physical evidence. The significance of this is not yet clear.

Also testifying today was Richard Munisteri, a lawyer for the parent company of House of Blues, where Clarkson was working at the time of her death.

Munisteri testified that the 40-year old actress was earning $9 an hour at her job as a hostess in the VIP room, reports the Los Angeles Times.

This testimony may help support the defence's argument that Clarkson was depressed because her acting career was floundering, which may have led to her taking her own life.

Spector is accused of murdering Clarkson in his Los Angeles mansion hours after meeting her at the House of Blues. The defence contends the actress' death was an accidental suicide.
The Concretes 'fall in love with each other again'

The Concretes' new vocalist Lisa Millberg has revealed the band have "fallen in love with each other" again after the departure of former singer Victoria Bergman.

Bergman quit suddenly last year just before the band were due to perform on 'The Jonathan Ross Show'. Former drummer Millberg then took over on vocal duties.

Now the revamped band are to release new album 'Hey Trouble' on Monday (June 4), followed by the single 'Oh Boy' on July 2.

Speaking to NME.COM, Millberg said: "I think we had a really horrible time all of last year.

"For me, at the time, it made sense to start writing, it wasn't like something I planned. Then I could survive! Then we talked about the different scenarios - should we keep going? Should we bring in someone new? Should we change the name? It seemed to make the most sense to remain the way we were.

And Millberg is glad the band ultimately took the path they have.

She revealed: "Doing the new album, it felt quite natural, it felt like a new route. But I can see for someone else's perspective it's different. That's very us to choose the most difficult path!

"It's been fantastic, we've fallen in love with each other all over again. We're having loads of fun. And we have a good excuse not to play old songs!"

But Millberg did admit to a little bit of stagefright when she first stepped up to sing.

She said: "At first I was absolutely terrified, but now I quite enjoy it. It's intense and weird, but it's good."

The band will play the following dates:

Birmingham Academy 2 (June 5)
London Luminaire (6)
Nottingham Rescue Rooms (7)
Leeds Cockpit (8)
Bristol Thekla Social (9)
Newcastle Academy 2 (10)
Glasgow King Tuts Wah Wah Hut (11)
Fall Out Boy frontman to open New York bar

Fall Out Boy frontman Pete Wentz has teamed up with members of Gym Class Heroes and The Academy Is... to open their own bar in New York City.

Speaking to New York Magazine, Wentz revealed the motivation behind his endeavor is a response to the city's current celebrity nightlife scene.

He said: "When I go to New York I always have to pick between crappy clubs and then call the promoter ahead of time and then still get hassled at the door and get stuffed into some cramped stupid VIP section and hear bad techno."

The bar, which will be called Angels & Kings, is set to be the one the least pretentious places in the city, a place where Wentz and his pals can hang out.

"Everyone I roll with is into Goonies," he said, "I want it to be like Shredder's hangout in 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2'."

And its d?cor will include mugshots and Fall Out Boy-branded drinks specials.

He revealed: "We have this awesome Sid Vicious mug shot where you can tell he's just like a fucked-up kid, like everyone had him pegged wrong. It speaks to me. We have a couple of Fall Out-based ideas for drinks. There's this song called 'Where Is Your Boy Tonight' so I was thinking we could have a 'Where Is Your Beer' special night."

Angels & Kings is scheduled to open on April 30.
