Modest Mouse close Lollapalooza with crowd-pleasers

Modest Mouse gave the crowd just what they wanted as the sun set over the final day of Lollapalooza.

The band played a cornucopia of crowd-pleasers that kept audience members dancing, crowd surfing and tossing beach balls around throughout their set.

"How are you doing?" frontman Isaac Brock asked, and the audience roared back in response.

Clouds gathered and rain threatened, but it never materialised. "The sky has been gracious enough not to open up," Brock said.

Johnny Marr's impressive guitar work brought life to several songs from their recent album 'We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank', including 'Fire It Up' and the hit single 'Dashboard'.

"Johnny's part of the family now," Brock told NME.COM before their set. "He's in it for the long-haul."

Brock added that he was glad to be back in Chicago, where he used to live. "Tomorrow I'll roll around town and visit old haunts, including where I got my jaw broken a long time ago."
Marah UK tour dates

Six albums in, MARAH has gained a membership stronger and more vital than they ever dreamt of.

With the addition of Christine Smith on piano & keyboards, their remaining core of Adam Garbinski on guitar, Dave "Fire & Ice" Petersen on drums, Kirk Henderson on bass, and Serge Bielanko and his brother Dave on guitars and singing, MARAH feels as if they are a better band, better songwriters, and better people than they have ever been before.

Their next album, "Angels of Destruction" will be released by Munich Records in early 2008. In the meantime, there will be a digital release EP in November, that includes two tracks from the new album plus two bonus tracks, one of which is "Rowhouse Row". Franz Ferdinand for next year's Jersey Live?

Franz Ferdinand are in the running to headline next summer's Jersey Live festival, NME.COM has learnt.

Warren Le Sueur, Event Director of the Jersey Live festival which took place last weekend (September 1 and 2) has told us that he is currently in negotiations with the band.

"Nothing's been signed yet, but I'm hoping to get Franz to headline's next year's event," he told us. "We're talking about it over the coming weeks."

Le Sueur also revealed that The View had been in the running to play at this year's bash, but the deal fell through. Audio Bullys stepped in to fill the slot before Kasabian's headline slot last night (September 2), after their manager contacted Le Sueur.

There were 9,040 tickets sold for this year's event, which had a maximum capacity of 10,000.

The festival had a comparatively huge police presence and there were 11 arrests in total over the two days. One of the arrests was for stealing a car from the site and using it to drive into the nearby town.
