Events

Linkin Park join Live Earth line-up

Linkin Park are to headline the Tokyo leg of the forthcoming Live Earth concerts.

The global gigs, which take place across all seven continents on July 7, begin a one-year campaign, spearheaded by former US presidential candidate Al Gore, to promote climate change.

As well as Tokyo, shows will take place Sydney, Shanghai, Johannesburg, London, Hamburg, Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro and New York.

Linkin Park co-frontman Mike Shinoda told Undercover: "Climate crisis awareness could be one of the defining issues of our generation, and we're proud to play this show in support of that effort."

The concert is expected to be viewed by two billion people, and is set to be the biggest music event ever undertaken.

Bands confirmed to play the London event at the newly-reopened Wembley Stadium include Beastie Boys, Snow Patrol, Madonna and Razorlight.
The Strokes to take the year off

The Strokes are taking time off and will not release anything in 2007, according to a bulletin posted by the band via MySpace.

The band's last album, 'First Impressions Of Earth', came out in January 2006, followed by a period of extensive touring. And according to the post, the group aren't planning any activity until 2008 at the earliest.

The message reads: "The band are still enjoying some much needed 'off time'. I wouldn't expect anything to come out this year."

"In the meantime, they are staying busy pursuing some other personal interests and are busy working/writing/rehearsing and all those things bands do in between albums. But, there are no immediate plans to release an album or tour for the time being."

Some members of the band have been keeping themselves busy - frontman Julian Casablancas performs guest vocals on the new Queens Of The Stone Age album 'Era Vulgaris', while Albert Hammond, Jr.'s solo touring plans include a headline slot on the Carling Stage at this year's Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds festivals.
Go-Betweens stars to release joint solo Best Ofs

The last album Go-Betweens star Grant McLennan put together before his shock death in 2006 is to be released next month.

'Intermission', a compilation featuring the best solo recordings from McLennan and his Go-Betweens partner Robert Forster, will be out on June 18.

The two CD anthology is made up of tracks the duo recorded as solo artists in between the band's initial split in 1989 and their reformation in 2000.

The pair's respective choices for their CDs were finalised in April 2006, and McLennan chose the title. He died suddenly in May 2006, aged 48, of a heart attack.

The tracklisting is as follows:
