Led Zeppelin reunion: promoter vows to take on touts

The organiser of the Led Zeppelin reunion gig has spoken out about tackling the touts trying to sell ticket-buying passwords online.

Some fans who were successful in the recent ballot to buy tickets for the gig have started selling their ticket-buying access in online auctions today (October 2), but Harvey Goldsmith explained to NME.COM how he would be tackling the touts head on.

He said: "The selection process took place on Monday (October 1) and people were notified. The unscrupulous ones put (the codes) up on eBay and wherever they can.

"The issue is as follows - unless the name of the person who was successful in the random ballot and their pass-code number and their photo ID match they aren't going to get in. It's as simple as that. So I want people to know lest their upset and disappointed."

Goldsmith said that the root of the problem has yet to be addressed.

He said: "So long as eBay continue to allow this to take place it will continue to happen. The whole industry wants eBay to take 'ticket' off their inventory, but they won't."

Bono blasts G8 Africa aid shortcomings

Bono has blasted a recent G-8 progress report as a 'cold shower' according to reports today (May 14).

The U2 frontman has called on German Chancellor Angela Merkel to address the shortcomings at a G-8 summit next month, and to maintain the promise made to double Africa aid to $50 billion by 2010.

"The G-8 are sleepwalking into a crisis of credibility. I know the DATA report will feel like a cold shower, but I hope it will wake us all up," the singer said.

A report from DATA -Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa, the group founded by Bono shows that aid was increased by 2.3 billion, significantly less than the amount needed. It said that Britain and Japan have been the most generous countries so far.

According to the Associated Press, Bono told reporters "These statistics are not just numbers on a page. They are people begging for their lives, for two pills a day, a mother begging to immunize her children, a child begging not to become a mother at the age of 12."

The 33rd G-8 Summit will be held next month in Heiligendamm, Germany.
Britney Spears apologises for umbrella rage

Britney Spears has apologised for her paparazzi incident that occurred earlier this year - which involved her attacking an SUV with an umbrella outside estranged husband Kevin Federline's house.

The incident occurred after the singer infamously shaved her head.

Writing to gossip website X17 in a handwritten note, she said: "I want to apologise for the past incident with the umbrella. I was preparing a character for a possible movie role where the husband doesn't play his part so they swap places.

"Unfortunately I didn't get the part, I'm sorry I got all carried away with my role! Britney."

Meanwhile as previously reported, the release date of the singer's new album has been pushed back to 2008.
