Geri daughter was a 'beautiful accident'
Geri Halliwell says her daughter was a "beautiful accident".
The Spice Girl - who has a 17-month-old daughter, Bluebell Madonna, with former lover, screenwriter Sacha Gervasi - believes motherhood has been a blessing and given her the motivation to be the best she can be.
Geri said: "So many women today are single parents, I don't feel different.
I think you get out of life what you put into it and Bluebell was a beautiful accident. I feel blessed to have her.
"I'm learning every day as a mother. I'm learning that she's like a flower that thrives when it gets sunlight, and the sunlight is confidence, and I feel that when I'm confident it gives her self-esteem. And that gives me motivation to go on and be the best."
Geri, 35, also revealed becoming a parent has made her a more compassionate person.
She added to Britain's Guardian newspaper: "At first I was a single, young Bridget Jones kind of woman. I was operating in a selfish world. Now I'm a mother my compassion has expanded."
The singer - who is currently preparing for the Spice Girls' comeback world tour which kicks off on December 2 in Vancouver, Canada - would love another child and is even looking into the possibility of adopting.
Geri said: "I'm open about it and I'm educating myself at the moment." |
Flooding causes Reading Festival camping shake-up
Flooding at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival site has forced organisers to close off camping areas and car parks.
Festival organiser Melvyn Benn has said that many camping areas are "unusable", so has put emergency flood plans into effect to accommodate campers arriving at the festival this weekend (August 24, 25 and 26).
Organisers have had to turn a proposed car park into an impromptu camp-site, and many campsites will have reduced capacity.
Information about the changes can be found on the Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals homepage now.
"It's been a very difficult month," said Benn. "This summer has been bloody awful.
"But we will be able to stage the world's greatest rock festival despite what climate change and the weather have thrown at us. I always said the festival was more important than the weather!" |
Bright Eyes shine as Benicassim kicks off
Bright Eyes wound up his international tour tonight (July 19) as Benicassim 2007 sprung into life.
The beachside festival, just outside the town of Castellon, traditionally opens a day early with a reduced line-up on the main stage.
And this year the party, dubbed Fibstart, coincides with the final night of Conor Oberst and band's international tour.
Oberst led the band, clad in their trademark white suits, through a set heavy with tracks from current album 'Cassadaga', including 'Hot Knives', 'Four Winds' and 'Middleman' alongside classic 'First Day Of My Life'.
Oberst told the crowd he wished he could stay for the weekend in Valencia, but the band were straight on a plane home to Nebraska.
He said: "We have to say goodbye to one of our favourite drummers, Janet Weiss." Weiss joined the Bright Eyes touring line-up after her own band Sleater-Kinney split last year.
The other big highlight of Fibstart was a chaotic show from Iggy Pop and The Stooges, which saw another now-traditional stage invasion. Stay tuned to NME.COM for our exclusive video interview with Iggy Pop himself.
Benicassim 2007 begins in earnest tomorrow, with fun in the sun from Klaxons and The Horrors. |
