Phil Spector trial: Day 30
The cross examination of defence expert Vincent DiMaio continued today (June 28) during Phil Spector's murder trial in Los Angeles.
The former medical examiner insisted once again that actress Lana Clarkson held the gun that killed her.
DiMaio said he came to that conclusion based on the amount of gunshot residue on Clarkson's body, arms and the back-spatter of blood on her hands.
Spector is accused of murdering Clarkson on February 3, 2003 at his Los Angeles mansion. The defence contends that the actress shot herself.
Today the prosecution attempted to make a case that DiMaio was a hired gun for the defence and that his findings were based more on wishful thinking than fact.
DiMaio repeatedly insisted that his conclusion was an "objective scientific truth," despite the fierce questioning by Deputy District Attorney Alan Jackson, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Jackson also questioned DiMaio about whether Spector might have washed the blood spatter or gun residue off of himself.
DiMaio responded: "There is no physical evidence about Mr. Spector. In my opinion she had the gun and in the period of association, she fired it. She probably didn't think of the consequences." |
