Foxy Brown sentenced to jail
Foxy Brown has been sentenced to jail for violating the terms of her probation.
A New York judge revoked the rapper's probation today (August 22) due to her arrest earlier this month for allegedly hitting her neighbour with a Blackberry device.
She was originally on probation for attacking two manicurists at a nail salon in 2004.
"She has an air of entitlement about her," city Department of Probation lawyer Matilde Leo said at a hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court. "Probation is a privilege, not a right....She has finally abused that privilege to the point of no return."
Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, has been jailed until her next hearing on Sept. 7, reports the Associated Press.
Brown's lawyer argued that the case against the rapper was weak and it was not necessary to send her to jail. He added that she's turning her life around, and is three months' pregnant. |
Mercury Records Relaunches Under IDJ
Mercury Records, once home to bands like the Cardigans and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, has relaunched as a new division of Island Def Jam (IDJ) Music Group with former Epic Vice President Of A&R David Massey as president. Massey is looking forward to breathing "new life" into the label, which ceased operation in 1999 when PolyGram and Seagram merged. However, Mercury has remained a fully functional label in the UK, home to Shiny Toy Guns and Fall Out Boy's international distribution. According to a statement released today, Massey will oversee all operations of the US hub of the label, and report directly to IDJ Chairman L.A. Reid.
"Even more than David's proven leadership and success as an executive in our business is the track record of trust and inspiration he has won from the artists he's worked with over the years," said Reid via the release. "This all-important quality makes him the perfect choice to pilot Mercury through its latest incarnation as a new cornerstone in the IDJ family. We welcome him to the senior management team."
Massey previously signed and developed a wide variety of artists ranging from Good Charlotte to Phantom Planet to Cyndi Lauper. There is no confirmation as to which artists will call Mercury their home, or how many releases are slated for this year. Massey will assume his new post on April 16. |
