Cribs raise the temperature at Lollapalooza

The Cribs performed an hour long set this afternoon at Lollapalooza when they kicked off the second 'main' stage at Grant Park.

Opening with 'Mirrors Kissers', the band pushed their own limits to make it through thanks to the intense heat and a late night after their sold-out show at Empty Bottle.

Despite the searing afternoon temperatures, the trio managed to get the thousands in the crowd going with tracks from all three albums including 'Another Number', 'Hey Scenesters' and 'Men's Needs'.

Meanwhile, last night's show at Empty Bottle included a preview of a brand new track 'Don't You Wanna Be Relevant'.

"It's a little known fact, but I used to live in Chicago" Ryan Jarman told the riotous crowd "It's great to be back"
Take That join Diana line-up

The group initially turned down an invitation to perform at the event, to be held at Wembley Stadium on July 1, because they had booked holidays.

Band member Mark Owen said: "We were all due to be away with our families on the date of the event when the concert was first announced, but after being asked to perform last week we got together and decided we wanted to do anything we could to help make Diana's concert one of the highlights of the summer."

He added: "Diana was an inspiration to so many people and we feel privileged to have met her."

It is hoped that Robbie Williams might join his ex-bandmates on stage for the first time in 12 years.

Take That join a line-up which includes Lily Allen, Sir Elton John, Joss Stone, Rod Stewart, Bryan Ferry and Kanye West.

The event has been devised by Princes William and Harry as a celebration of their mother's life, and will be broadcast live to millions of viewers in more than 140 countries.

The concert marks what would have been Diana's 46th birthday.

Prince William said: "We wanted to have this big concert, full of energy, full of the sort of fun and happiness which I know she would have wanted.

"And on her birthday as well, it's got to be the best birthday present she ever had."
Jury selection in Phil Spector case begins

Jury selection in the murder trial of US music producer Phil Spector began today (April 16) in Los Angeles.

Approximately 100 prospective jurors were verbally questioned by lawyers, who were ordered by Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler to also consider the answers they provided on written questionnaires last month.

Fidler told the panel that although the proceedings will be televised, all jurors will remain anonymous. He encouraged them to reveal their innermost thoughts during questioning, reports the Associated Press.

"This case is not about you," he told the prospective jurors. "This criminal justice system works extremely well if we end up with 12 impartial jurors willing to be fair to both sides There are some people looking for their 15 minutes of fame. We're not looking for that kind of juror."

Spector was accused of murdering B-movie actress Lana Clarkson at his home in California four years ago.

Clarkson died from a single shot to the head at the producer's Los Angeles mansion in February 2003.

Spector has previously denied murder, claiming that the gunshot wound was "self-inflicted". If convicted, Spector could face life in prison. He is currently free on $1 million bail.

Opening statements in the trial are expected at the end of the month.
