Depeche Mode man unveils new album details
Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan has announced that he will release his second solo album this autumn.
'Hourglass' -- the follow-up to 2003's 'Paper Monsters' -- is due out on October 23 in the US. Gahan wrote and co-produced all the songs on the album, and recruited Tony Hoffer (Beck, Air, The Kooks, The Fratellis) to mix the album.
"I feel this record has been an amazing opportunity to push the artist in me," Gahan said in a statement.
Gahan also said that the album addresses the theme of time slipping away. "I don't know if it's about age, just getting older...there's no longer the luxury of being able to get blind drunk every night and just hide behind that. My fear is that I've wasted so much time in fear, in fear of diving in. I feel like I'm racing against the clock."
The album's first single, 'Kingdom', is due to his US radio stations on August 27. |
Nelson Mandela to host AIDS benefit concert
Nelson Mandela has announced that he will host an international concert to raise AIDS awareness among young people on December 1 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Previous concerts have attracted such notable artists as U2, Beyonce, Bob Geldof and Annie Lennox.
"I am very delighted that we are engaging the youth in schools, communities and through the media breaking the silence and stigmas around HIV and AIDS and making them realize that the power to beat the pandemic lies in their own hands," said Mandela at a press conference in Johannesburg today (October 1).
This will be the fifth in the series of concerts that has raised approximately $3 million for AIDS awareness to date. They have chosen to hold the concert on December 1 to mark World Aids Day. |
