Arctic Monkeys close Old Trafford residency

Arctic Monkeys rounded off their second headlining show with another storming performance at Lancashire County Cricket Club tonight (July 29).

Although the band managed to escape the sound problems which affected their first show, the Sheffield four-piece had to stop the gig momentarily during 'Still Take You Home' when the crowd surged forward.

Singer Alex Turner announced to the crowd: "You're not going to believe this but can you all take a step back please?"

After a few minutes the band were able to carry on but then they had to stop briefly during 'Dancing Shoes' for the same reason.

Despite the minor crowd problems, their second show proved to be a triumph with much of the crowd belting out the words to a host of singles from their two albums including 'Fluorescent Adolescent', 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor', 'Brianstorm', 'When The Sun Goes Down' and debut album favourite 'Mardy Bum'.

In reference to the audience's participation, Turner quipped: "You're a lairy bunch you lot, lairier than yesterday apparently."

Later, the band were forced to stop midway through 'View From The Afternoon' because Turner was unable to contain his laughter when he spotted a member of the crowd dressed as the Bo Selecta caricature of Craig David.

"That is fucking freaking me out," Turner told the audience before he added: "Get the camera on that guy."

As the Sheffield four-piece brought their second show to a close the band played 'Fluorescent Adolescent' yet again before Turner took over keyboard duties for '505'.

Signing off with 'A Certain Romance' the singer added: "Thank you very much for coming. We should do this every year. We've had good weather, plenty of sunshine and good bands as well."

Band Of Horses headline free Brooklyn show

Band Of Horses, Annuals and Oxford Collapse played the fifth Jelly NYC Pool Party at McCarren Pool in Brooklyn yesterday (July 22).

Sub Pop's Oxford Collapse opened the show in late afternoon, and were joined late in their set on percussion by Keith Murray of We Are Scientists, while North Carolina's Annuals competed with water slides and long beer lines to hold onto the crowd.

Despite muffled sound during their set, South Carolina headliners Band Of Horses thrilled the 3,000 strong crowd with previews of tracks from soon-to-be-released 'Cease To Begin' as well as a cover of the Mick Jagger and Keith Richards-penned song 'Act Together'.

Several local musicians watched the show including Grizzly Bear, while members of Foals and Editors were also spotted.

The pool parties continue next Sunday with headliners TV On The Radio supported by Celebration, Miles Benjamin and Anthony Robinson.
