Klaxons sell out legendary LA theatre
Klaxons performed for a sold-out crowd at the Los Angeles El Rey Theatre last night (July 10).
The all-ages audience greeted the London lads with rapturous cheers and glow sticks when they took the stage at the hotly tipped gig.
Dressed all in black, the quartet ran through several popular tracks from their debut album, 'Myths Of The Near Future'.
"We're happy to be back here in LA for the third time," frontman Jamie Reynolds told the crowd. "We've only been here about 24 hours but you've made us feel most welcome."
Highlights of the evening included the dramatic 'Two Receivers' and crowd-pleaser 'Golden Skans'.
The band wrapped things up after only 45 minutes without an encore, looking a bit worse for the wear after travelling from Scotland where they played a rousing set at T In The Park at the weekend.
Speaking to NME.COM after the show, keyboardist James Righton admitted, "I'm not sure this was the right room for us. But everyone seemed happy, and the older crowd got into it." |
Lollapalooza seeks new talent
Lollapalooza Festival organisers have announced the details of a contest that gives US bands the chance to perform at the massive Chicago event.
Last Band Standing asks bands to submit their music and information online so the public can vote on them. Finalists will compete at a live show in Chicago where celebrity judges will determine the winners.
The winner of the competition and the first runner-up will be given performance slots at the festival August 3-5 at Chicago's Grant Park, where they'll share the stage with the likes of Interpol, Muse, Iggy and the Stooges, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pearl Jam and Modest Mouse.

Ra Ra Riot drummer found dead
The body of Ra Ra Riot drummer John Pike has been found.
Pike, 23, went missing after leaving a party in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The band played a show in Providence, RI on Friday night and afterwards attended the party in Fairhaven, MA. Pike left the party at 3am.
The search began on foot and by air yesterday around 4pm.
Pike's cell phone was later found in shallow water on a beach about half a mile from the house where the party took place, according to local Fire Chief Tim Francis.
This morning the search was extended, with divers searching the waters in the area.
The body was found around 4pm this afternoon (June 3) in seven feet of water in Buzzards Bay, about 200 yards from where his cell phone was discovered. |
