| Beyonc? wowes Ethiopia Beyonc? Knowles wowed fans by wearing a see-through leotard for the start of her world tour. The 'Baby Boy' singer - who recently cancelled her Malaysia concerts after refusing to conform to the country's conservative dress code - donned a series of skimpy costumes, including a risqu? leotard with strategically placed Swarovski crystals, for her Ethiopia show on Saturday (20.10.07). Beyonc? told the 5,000 screaming fans: "I want to thank you. You have been one of the best audiences of my lifetime." Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa welcomed Beyonc?'s two hour performance as part of the country's year-long celebration of its 2000th year, according to the Coptic calendar. Beyonc?'s opening act, multi-platinum-selling rapper Ludacris, failed to impress the crowd. Local music promoter Michael Melake explained: "Rap music doesn't suit Ethiopia. "Ethiopians need a melody. Rap music is all about the message and we don't identify with that. It's all about the black American experience, and we don't relate to that." The Black Eyed Peas, who performed in Addis Ababa in September, also received a lukewarm reception. |
Ryan Adams adds North American dates Ryan Adams has added a string of North American dates to his summer tour. In addition to playing in Paris, London and Manchester as previously announced, he'll play in several US cities beginning June 18 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The singer will then hit Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston and Salt Lake City before wrapping things up at Colorado's Red Rock Amphitheatre on August 3. Adams is set to release his new album, 'Easy Tiger', on June 25 in the UK, and a day later in the US. Wintersleep Never Rest With New Tour Hibernation is officially over, and Canadian rockers Wintersleep will be busy as bears this spring with new videos and a month-long American tour, all while chipping away at their third record with famed producer Tony Doogan, who is best known for his work with Belle And Sebastian. "Tony is really helpful in all the places you want a producer to be helpful," says Paul Murphy, lead singer of the band who checks in from the studio. "He understands us. We've been playing these particular songs for a while live now and it is nice to actually work them out in a studio setting." In support of their upcoming US releases, the quartet will join tourmates and fellow Canadians Tragically Hip for an eight-date US run starting May 10 in Indianapolis. "They are a really amazing group of people and such a great band to play shows with," Murphy adds. "I have a sick crush." Wintersleep's first two albums, (2005's Juno-winning Unititled and 2003's self-titled disc) were released in March by Labwork here in the states. In between touring and working on their as-of-yet untitled record slated for release later this year, Wintersleep plan to continue to make videos for every one of their songs, which you can check out on their website.
