Ike Turner jailed in LA
Ike Turner was arrested in Los Angeles on Tuesday (May 15) on a 1989 narcotics warrant that was eventually determined to be invalid.
The famed musician and ex-husband of Tina Turner was pulled over after police spotted him driving at more than 80 miles per hour and straddling lanes on Interstate 405 in the San Fernando Valley.
The police ran a check for warrants after they stopped the car, and found the nearly 20-year-old felony narcotics warrant. They then arrested and booked Turner in a downtown jail, reports the Associated Press.
Officer April Harding explained that he was released when the warrant was deemed invalid. "He had court yesterday and I guess that they deemed it was an old warrant that was never removed from the system," she said.
Turner was released from jail yesterday (May 16) at approximately 3:00pm. |
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club play Camden Crawl
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club played a headlining set tonight (April 19) at the first of their two Camden Crawl gigs.
Leading the way at the Underworld venue, the band who headlined the Astoria the night before squeezed into the tiny basement room for the Fallout Records hosted bash.
Coming onstage to chants of "Rebel, rebel", the band tore into a relentless, hard driving set that mixed live favourites with their forthcoming fourth album 'Baby 81'.
With the likes of 'Whatever Happened To My Rock N Roll (Punk Song)' and 'Stop' triggering a frenzy in the crowd, the band inspired wave upon wave of crowd surfers at the sweaty venue.
Having played new song 'Took Out A Loan' from practically the front row - almost having his bass accidentally kicked out of his hands by a stray foot belonging to an enthusiastic surfer - singer Robert Levon Been praised the audience's energy.
"You guys are the greatest fuckers, God bless you and maybe see you tomorrow," he declared, referencing the band's second appearance tomorrow (April 20).
Earlier The Cooper Temple Clause had been due to play ahead of the headliners, but blaming the old classic of "unforeseen circumstances" the band pulled their appearance and were replaced by DJs. |
Amazon Launches Go Indie
With the recent successes of indie favorites the Shins and Arcade Fire, it was no surprise that the giants would start to take notice. Amazon.com today announced that it has teamed up with more than 30 indie labels, such as Sub Pop and Barsuk, to launch Go Indie, a new section in its music store featuring hand-picked selections of nearly 700 independent titles, 150 of which will carry a reduced price of $9.99. This limited-time offering is aimed to help the labels have prominent space on larger retailers, a problem found prevalent when battling against major label releases.
"In this day and age, it's rare that a retailer carries the full range of our releases, so thank God for Amazon.com," said Andy Kotowicz, vice president of sales and marketing at Sub Pop, via press release. "They are the perfect partner to help us showcase the scope and breadth of Sub Pop's current artists and diverse catalogue."
Sub Pop's own the Shins will be one of six bands featured in the Go Indie video content portion of the site, alongside the Black Keys, Air, Sam Bush, Robyn Hitchcock and CeU. The Go Indie store and the featured videos can be found at www.amazon.com/indie-deals. |
