Sigur R?s live at the BFI Southbank
Sigur R?s, who this week were honoured at the Q Awards with the award for 'Innovation In Sound?, will perform a very special acoustic concert at the BFI Southbank (formerly the National Film Theatre) on November 5th, prior to the screening of their hugely acclaimed film 'Heima?. Further screenings are also confirmed around the UK.
'Heima? has been shown at film festivals across the globe over the past two weeks, and has received universal plaudits hailing it as one of the finest music films ever made. It is a truly stunning, beautiful and moving piece of cinema that deeply affects everyone who has seen it. Hypnotic, arresting, charming, quirky, emotional and thought-provoking it is as much a record of Iceland and its people as it is a film about Sigur R?s? music.
The film receives its UK premiere at the BBC Electric Proms on October 24th and is then screened at the BFI Southbank, accompanied by a short live concert. The film will also be screened in Glasgow, Cardiff, Leeds, Newcastle and Liverpool (details below). The DVD of 'Heima? is released on Nov 5th alongside the album 'Hvarf-Heim?.
Tickets for the BFI Southbank concert and screening went on sale last week and sold out immediately. |
Dizzee Rascal's new album gets US digital release
Dizzee Rascal will release his forthcoming album, 'Maths and English', digitally in the US in June.
The rapper, who recently collaborated with Arctic Monkeys on their track 'Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend' and sees the band returning the favour on his new album, has decided not to release the album in a physical form Stateside.
This decision may be attributed to the slow US sales of his last album, 'Showtime', and his reported reluctance to promote his new album this side of the Atlantic.
Lily Allen also make a guest appearance on 'Maths and English', as previously reported.
The album is due out in the UK on June 4 and in a digital format on June 5 in the US. |
Open call planned for Notorious B.I.G. movie
Producers of the Notorious BIG biopic have said they will find the star of the movie through an open casting call.
The movie entitled 'Notorious' will include both professional actors and amateurs in its casting process which is due to begin this Friday.
The films producers told the Associated Press today (August 9) that video auditions can be submitted beginning Sunday to foxsearchlight.com/notorious or biggiecasting.com. An official announcement about the call is expected tomorrow by Fox Searchlight, who own the rights to the film.
Biggie's former manager Wayne Barrow, a producer on the movie, said that finding a professional actor to play the rapper, whose real name was Christopher Wallace, was next to impossible.
"As it relates to the individual Christopher Wallace - his looks, his stature, what he represented, the swagger, the sensibility of the man - all those elements are very difficult to find, no matter where you go. In the typical Hollywood world, no one came to mind outside of Forest Whitaker who could capture that essence genuinely."
The producers did not approach the Oscar-winning actor however, because at 46 he is too old to play the rapper who was murdered in 1997 when he was just 24.
Meanwhile Biggie's mother Voletta Wallace, also a producer, said she wants to se all her son's qualities in the part:
"There will only be one Christopher Wallace, but I'm happy that his legacy will open a door for another to walk through," said Wallace. "I don't want you to just imitate him. I want to see his swagger, his style, his energy and smile come through."
The movie is expected to begin production later this year. |
